Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has been left out of the squad for their Europa League clash with Mlada Boleslav after he missed training.
The 23-year-old France midfielder has been linked with Newcastle, Everton, Southampton and Arsenal in the Premier League in recent weeks and now speculation intensifies over his future at Lyon after he skipped training ahead of their tie with Mlada Boleslav.
According to reports in France, the Frenchman’s exclusion from the squad is not due to injury amid rumours the club are open to selling their star player should the right offer come in.
"We will adapt appropriately if he leaves. For the moment, we have not had any satisfying offers,” stated Lyon manager Hubert Fournier.
The boss also suggested the player had been the subject of enquiries from other clubs this summer but that the clubs were not on the ‘footballing level’ the player was hoping for.
"There have been propositions because he is a quality player who is wanted a lot around the world. But they were not perceived to be adequate by the club,” he added.
"Also, they were not what Clement wanted in terms of footballing level."
Clement Grenier’s omission from the Lyon squad now implies the midfielder may be re-considering the offers he does have, especially if the rumours that he missed training ahead of the game are to be believed. Whether or not his club are content to let him leave appears subject to the fee offered from potential suitors but by missing training he may be hopeful of forcing his move through, regardless.
