We bring you news from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Derby County

1) Wolves midfielder set to depart

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, Tongo Doumbia, could be set to leave the club with RC Lens closing in on a deal to sign him, according to reports in France.

Doumbia has found his first-team chances limited at Molineux and was placed up for sale this summer by manager Kenny Jackett, with the club keen to cash in on him.

And it seems that Lens have met their valuation, with the Malian international set to complete a move to Ligue 1 in the near future.

The 24-year-old has agreed terms with French club and the two teams are in the process of finalising the deal.

2) Christian Benteke admits he might not meet his target of an early comeback

Aston Villa front-man Christian Benteke has revealed that he may not be able to meet his aim of coming back early from injury.

Benteke was ruled out for six months last April after rupturing his Achilles tendon, but vowed to come back sooner than that.

However, as the severity of the injury became known to him, he admits that he will now have to take his time to recover and ensure that he is ready to come back when he returns to action.

“Of course, I still believe I can come back more quickly but if it is six months and another month, I have to take my time,” he said to the club’s official site.

“It's a bad injury and I don't have to rush myself. I have to do the right treatment."

“What I can do is work as hard as I can to make sure that I come back better than before. Of course, I believe this. Will I be able to come back bigger, stronger, better than before? Yes - not bigger maybe, but better!”

3) Aston Villa and West Brom to do battle for Victor Moses

Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are both trying to secure loan deals with Victor Moses for the upcoming season.

Both the Midlands rivals see Moses as a player who can improve their squads and are keen to sign him this summer.

Chelsea are quite prepared to allow Moses to leave on a temporary basis again, after he spent last season on loan at Liverpool, at it seems that Baggies and Villa are the duo at the front of the queue.

Which side he will go to remains to be seen, but both will be hoping that the Nigerian international picks them as they look to strengthen their sides for the 2014/15 campaign.

4) Alan Irvine wants West Brom to be ‘flexible’

New West Bromwich Albion boss says he wants his team to be able to adapt to different systems throughout the season.

The Baggies manager has not settled upon a favourite formation yet, preferring to utilise a number of different ones depending on the opposition.

He feels that this flexibility will be key in the upcoming season and is keen not to simply use one formation and stick with it.

“We have now played four games and we’ve played four different formations,” he said. “I want us to be flexible and I want us to be adaptable.

“I think nowadays you’ve got to be, certainly in the Premier League."

“You’ve got to have players who understand different systems, and different styles of play, because we will need them as the season goes on."

“I think that’s important and a big part of how I feel the game should be and how I feel players should be.”

5) Steve McClaren delighted with his Derby players

Steve McClaren says that he is delighted by the work-rate of his Derby County side over pre-season.

The Rams were cruelly beaten in the play-off final last year, but there appears to have been no lasting effects from that defeat, with the squad raring to go in preparation for their Championship campaign, which commences on August 9th.

“The players have really put the work in from the word go,” he said to the club’s official site.

“It’s good to get the players back into doing shape work and organisation rather than just training or running."

“The key thing is to get the discipline back into the team because that was our strong point last season."

Should Moses choose WBA or Villa? Will Derby go up this season?
