The new player, signed from Southampton, appeared keen to listen to his new manager's advice during his first training session with Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has wasted no time in passing on some of his knowledge to new signing Calum Chambers.

The former Southampton defender only completed a deal to join Arsenal from the south-coast club for £16million yesterday, but Wenger has already been seen giving him tactical tips as he trains with his new club for the first time.

Chambers had his first opportunity to play with his new team-mates today, on Arsenal’s pre-season training camp in Austria, and he appeared to be soaking up all the information that his new manager was giving him.

He would be wise to listen, too, as Wenger has developed a reputation as one of the finest developers of young talent in football.

Indeed, in recent times the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have made the switch from St. Mary’s to the Emirates and Chambers has already expressed a desire to emulate his predecessors’ achievements.

“The manager has a fantastic history of bringing young players through and nurturing them – especially from Southampton, as you have seen with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott,” he said in his first interview with the club. “I would just like to have the opportunity to follow in their path and be as successful as them.”

He has initially been signed as cover for Mathieu Debuchy, who is expected to start the season as the preferred choice at right-back for the Gunners. But Chambers should get plenty of exposure to first-team football given he has proven he is good enough to cope at Premier League level.

The 19-year-old has already gone on record to state how excited he is at the challenge of playing for a club with the history that Arsenal has and the initial signs are that he has settled into life well.

He has already been pictured smiling with team-mates on social media sites and from this image we can see that he is keen to learn on the pitch, too, standing him in good stead for the future.

Can Chambers be a success at Arsenal?
