Bayern tell Arsenal target Khedira to stay ... so they can sign him for free

Sami Khedira

Bayern Munich reportedly have joined the race for Sami Khedira. But they want him on a Bosman in 2015.

Arsenal have been linked heavily with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira for well over a year now - from the moment they sold Alex Song to Real's bitter rivals Barcelona. The German international is certainly a 'Marmite' player - but after missing the majority of the 2013-14 season with a knee injury he had a stunning World Cup with Germany, something nobody can deny.

But before his injury Carlo Ancelotti was not a big fan of Khedira, while the Madrid press had also given up on him - infamously labelling him 'a donkey' among the Real thoroughbreds at the Bernabeu.

With the arrival of Toni Kroos this summer it appears time is up for the former Stuttgart man and Arsenal could very well still make a move for the player - a defensive minded midfielder would be good business with Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta not getting any younger and Jack Wilshere surely not disciplined enough to play the role.

Khedira is also close with Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker - the presence of his countryman would surely make him more comfortable.

But today it is being reported that The Gunners have serious competition for his signature - in the form of German champions Bayern Munich.

It is reported in Spanish publication Marca today that Bayern are more than keen on the midfielder - to strengthen their midfield area.

But the odd part of this story comes in how Bayern wish to manifest their interest. Marca believe that instead of bidding for Khedira this summer the German champions will instead attempt to get him for nothing.

It is reported that Bayern will tell his advisor's to stay put in the Spanish capital for another season - with his contract expiring in 2015. He will then be free to join Bayern Munich on a Bosman ruling transfer, for absolutely nothing, but on a bumper wage deal.

This new interest is of course bad news for Arsenal and Real. The Spanish side are desperate to sell Khedira off the back of his good World Cup. If they fail to do so by the end of August - they risk losing him for nothing in the summer of 2015.

And now it looks like Bayern would be that destination.

Should Arsenal move for Khedira while they can?
