Rodgers hails Kolo Toure as 'incredible' - hint he'll stay?

Kolo Toure Ivory Coast

Brendan Rodgers believes the Liverpool team needs players like the 33-year-old.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that every team needs a player like defender Kolo Toure, which hints that the Ivorian could be staying at Anfield despite interest from Trabzonspor.

Toure signed for the Reds last summer on a free transfer from Manchester City, and if he stays at the club it is unlikely he will be given first team football on a regular basis given the club has just brought in Dejan Lovren with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho also at the club. Daniel Agger's future remains uncertain as speculation surrounding a potential move to Barcelona is gathering momentum.

Rodgers is quoted by the Liverpool website, saying: "Kolo has been an incredible player. We brought him in because he is a winner, an authentic winner.

"He's someone who doesn't play every single week but when he does play, he plays very well. Every day of his life in training, he gives his all.

"Players like Kolo and Steven [Gerrard], the older statesmen of the team, have been absolutely first class. We're hungry and ambitious; we went close last year."

There is no doubt that Toure brings an incredible amount of pedigree having previously been involved in sides that have won trophies and titles. He was notably part of Arsenal's 'invincibles' team in 2003/04.

He is also a big personality, as has been displayed on the field even if he has been prone to the occasional howler during his first campaign at Anfield.

The Reds do have a fairly young squad at their disposal and having experienced personnel around the side to help the youngsters out can help a great deal even if they are not playing as much.

Sometimes experience can be invaluable when it comes to successful sides, and maybe Rodgers wants to have someone of Toure's calibre around at this point as younger players get more experience.

Will Kolo Toure be a Liverpool player when the transfer window shuts?
