Liverpool should do all they can to sign this £60m striker

Liverpool need a new striker, and while he may be pricey, Paris Saint-Germain frontman Edinson Cavani would be perfect for them.

Rumours persist in Spain that Manchester United are ready to bid big for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan striker has been playing second-fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic since his £60million move from Napoli and previous reports had suggested that David Moyes planned to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.

However, with Moyes gone, the rumours remain, but in truth they should not. Why United would sanction a considerable outlay on Cavani when they already have Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney remains to be seen.

Yes, Cavani is an outstanding striker. But with the formation Louis van Gaal intends to play van Persie will be the central striker leaving Cavani as something of a questionable – if excellent – addition.

But there is one Premier League club who would benefit considerably from Cavani’s arrival, and that club is Liverpool.

With Luis Suarez out of the picture, Brendan Rodgers has to ensure his goals and his influence are replaced as best as possible.

And in Cavani, Liverpool would have one of the world’s best frontmen whose presence would also invigorate a side looking to kick on from their exploits last season but doing so without their former talisman.

It has been suggested that Cavani is prepared to move, and if that is true, Rodgers would be wise to make a bid. It would have to be substantial, but money is available following the sale of Suarez to Barcelona, although plenty has already been spent on a number of impressive additions.

But as exciting as the likes of Emre Can and Lazar Markovic are, they remain inexperienced and Cavani would be the icing on the cake for a Liverpool side on the verge of greatness again.

Do you think Liverpool should try all they can to sign Cavani?
