£25m Arsenal target has stadium named after him in hometown

Sami Khedira

The Sami Khedira stadium is now present in Fellbach - celebrating his part in Germany's World Cup success.

The last few months have certainly been helter-skelter for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira. After returning from a severe knee injury and playing in a Champions League final win he went on to star for Germany at the World Cup - a World Cup that they of course won.

Now, this summer sees him heavily linked with a Bernabeu exit.

One club strongly believed to be pursuing his signature are Arsenal. Reports suggest the £25 million rated man is keen on The Gunners and with Real keen to sell - it seems to be a matter of just figures.

But yesterday, while rumours emerged of Bayern Munich interest, Khedira was occupied doing something rather different from transfer tittle-tattle. He was busy yesterday being bestowed a great honour by his hometown.

Khedira grew up in the small town of Fellbach, near Stuttgart, and began his footballing education at local side TV Oeffingen.

After three years at the club, from the age of five to eight, he was spotted by big boys VfB Stuttgart and stayed with Die Roten for 15 years - before joining Madrid.

But after helping Germany to World Cup glory his hometown have not forgotten about him - and have now renamed their football stadium after their most famous son.

Khedira was present at the newly dubbed 'Sami Khedira Stadium', returning from a holiday in South-East Asia to make the occasion.

And he said, in front of 1,000 watching fans:

"I am proud and grateful to be a German. And I'm proud to be a Oeffinger. The return the trip was worth it."

Not many players at Arsenal can say they have a stadium named after them. We can see it now, the Jack Wilshere Stadium - in Stevenage.

But come the end of the summer they might just change that fact, if Khedira does become a Gunner.

Should Arsenal sign Khedira?
