Former Liverpool striker: €60m star could be Suarez replacement

Radamel Falcao

John Aldridge believes Liverpool should consider a shock move for Radamel Falcao of AS Monaco.

Liverpool have been highly active in this summer's transfer market - with incomings, outgoings and pulled plugs all on the agenda.

They have brought in the likes of Rickie Lambert, Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic - while they of course are also set to suffer for the loss of Luis Suarez - who joined Barcelona earlier this month.

Then of course there is Loic Remy. An £8.5 million move for the QPR striker was all agreed - but collapsed at the last minute after the French international failed his medical.

Today Brendan Rodgers has admitted the club are still active in the transfer market - with many predicting a full-back and striker to be his remaining two positions to fill.

One person who agrees is John Aldridge. The ex-Liverpool striker played over 90 games for the Anfield club between 1987 and 1989 and his potent goal-scoring saw him earn a move to Spanish side Real Sociedad.

And, whilst talking to Sky Sports News, he agreed a full-back is an area where improvement is needed:

"Personally I hope to see a full-back, a really classy full-back come in if its viable. You know (Alberto) Moreno whether they can prise him I'm not sure we will pay that amount of money."

But he went on to talk about what he knows best. Strikers. And he was quick to offer up an opinion on just who Liverpool should target this summer:

"And a striker. I thought Remy for £8.5 million was a very shrewd, excellent buy, and it's fell through for whatever reason. So we do need another striker. In my opinion if something were to happen to Sturridge then we're very thin on the ground. Who's out there? At what price? I don't know. Falcao, he had a horrendous season last year. He really was a bit-part player to what he was in previous seasons. Whether he can get himself back to top notch, if he can then he would be one wouldn't he if you could prise him away."

Falcao is reportedly hungry to leave AS Monaco after an injury ravaged first season in Ligue 1 - and Real Madrid are reportedly set to offer him a loan escape back to La Liga.

He only joined Monaco last summer, for a fee in the region of €60 million, and Liverpool would certainly have to pay big to bring him in.

But when it comes to strikers near the level of Suarez - they don't get much closer than the Colombian, hoping for a better 2014-15.

Would Falcao be a good option for Liverpool?
