Jordan Henderson himself has said he would like to get on the scoresheet more often following his well-taken equaliser in a pre-season game against Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said he would like to see more goals from Jordan Henderson in the coming season, after the midfielder got on the scoresheet in Liverpool's shootout win over Manchester City in a pre-season tournament in New York.

Rodgers said after the match at Yankee Stadium: “He has the qualities as he showed with the finish for the equaliser. He does that day in day out in training.

“He's so fit and so strong, he's such a team player who does a lot of unselfish work for the team.

“We're asking him to get in the box more. We just played him around the corner in the last 20 minutes. He was able to time his runs a bit better.

“That's his strength to penetrate the defensive line. He's athletic and can run all day."

Henderson became an integral part of Liverpool's midfield last season but has yet to hit double figures on the goalscoring front in one season for the side in all competitions during his time at Anfield.

In his debut season he got just the two goals but he has found the net a little more frequently under Brendan Rodgers - scoring six and five goals in all competitions during the Northern Irishman's time in charge at Anfield.

Rodgers will, of course, want other players to chip in with more goals this season to try and fill the void left by Luis Suarez after he finished the league's top scorer with 31 goals last season.

Henderson himself has said he would like to get on the scoresheet more, telling the club's website: "I've got to chip in with more goals from midfield - as much as I can - so hopefully I can do a lot more of that this season."

His goal against Manchester City was a good example of how good a finisher Henderson can be, and if you look at lot of his goals for Liverpool, they have been accomplished strikes including against Swansea City last season, a wonderfully taken goal against Norwich City along with his two goals in his debut season.

Henderson's confidence has certainly developed over the past couple of years, and the Reds will be hoping that even more confidence can turn into him scoring more and more goals for the Reds.

How many goals should Henderson be scoring for Liverpool this season?
