Iago Aspas has urged Alberto Moreno not to join Liverpool from La Liga side Sevilla. Aspas is on loan at the Spanish club and has told Moreno that moving to Anfield would be a mistake.

“Alberto Moreno would never feel like he does in Sevilla at Liverpool,” said the striker.

Brendan Rodgers has said the club will continue to look at ways to improve the squad ahead of the transfer deadline of September 1. The club have already spent roughly £89 million on new players this summer.

“We still have some positions that we want to fill within the squad so that by the end of August we have a strong group of players to go forward with. We’ve still got some business to do,” said the manager.

Liverpool boss Rodgers has set Jordan Henderson the target of scoring at least ten goals in the imminent Premier League campaign.

“I would expect him to be getting up to ten goals this season because he has the quality and tactical awareness to arrive in the area and do that,” Rodgers told the club website.

Manuel Pellegrini says he expects Liverpool to compete for the Premier League title this season. The Chilean coach saw his City side lose to the Reds in a pre-season friendly on penalties last night.

“Liverpool are a very good team, played very well. Last season they had a strong campaign and I’m sure that this year they will be fighting for the title again,” Pellegrini told City’s website.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed he told Luis Suarez he was too good to play for Arsenal. Suarez nearly joined the Gunners last summer with the Reds turning down two bids for the Uruguayan.

“Last summer, when Luis was out in the cold, I told him, 'Don't go to Arsenal’. With all due respect to them, I told him he was too good for Arsenal,” said Gerrard.

Everton midfielder Leon Osman has stoked up the war of words with Liverpool by claiming the Toffees are good enough to finish above the Reds in the coming Premier League season.

“Yes we can. It’s going to be difficult though. Liverpool have strengthened, but so have we. We both have extra commitments with Europe this year but we aim to finish above them every season,” Osman told talkSPORT.

Reported left-back target Ryan Bertrand will play for Southampton on loan this season. Liverpool were linked with a potential £8 million deal for the Chelsea defender but are thought to have pulled out of a deal with the Blues refusing to budge from their top end valuation of the player.
