QPR linked with move for Marseille midfielder

According to reports, QPR are weighing up a move for Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano.

Emerging reports this morning indicate that the R's are preparing a bid for the midfielder, as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his squad further ahead of their return to the Premier League

So far this summer the QPR boss has tied up impressive deals to bring Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker to Loftus Road, but there is still much work to be done if the 67-year-old is to recruit the six new players he desires.

Amalfitano spent last season on loan at West Brom, and showed definite signs that he could be an effective player in England's top flight.

The 29-year-old scored four goals during his spell at the Baggies, but eventually failed to secure a permanent move to the club.

The arrival of Marcelo Biesla at Marseille has left Amalfitano in limbo with the midfielder now thought to be surplus to requirements, and a cut-price fee of £2.5 million could be enough to secure a deal for the Frenchman.

A fee this low would certainly suit QPR, who are keen to learn from previous mistakes and are being careful not to overspend this summer.

The French international can operate anywhere across the front of an attacking midfield three, which would provide Redknapp with some much needed cover and competition for places in that department.

The QPR boss is expected to make moves for both Rafael van der Vaart and Niko Kranjcar before the curtain lifts on the Premier League season in just over two weeks, but until then Amalfitano could be the next player to arrive at Loftus Road.

QPR may yet face competition for the midfielder's signature, with Sunderland and Hull also rumoured to be showing an interest.
