Midlands latest: Nine clubs in for Stoke star, No Villa approach for Wolves defender

Villa Park Outside

We bring you the latest news from Aston Villa, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby County

1) Hellas Verona to tie up Antonia Luna deal

Italian club Hellas Verona are aiming to conclude a deal to sign Aston Villa’s Antonia Luna in the near future.

The Villa left-back has failed to hold down a first-team place at Villa Park since joining last summer and looks set for an early exit, with the Serie A club happy to offer him a reprieve.

The 23-year-old made has made just one league appearance in this calendar year and both the club and the player were keen to move on this summer, according to reports.

2) Nine clubs want Geoff Cameron

Stoke City’s Geoff Cameron is being tracked by a total of nine clubs from across Europe this summer.

The defender has had his future at the Britannia Stadium thrown into question during this transfer window because of the arrival of Phil Bardsley threatening his first-team place.

And it seems that manager Mark Hughes could be tempted to cash-in on the interest in the American international.

Amongst the host of clubs interested are a quintet of Premier League sides with West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland, Hull City, Swansea City and Southampton all keen on signing the 29-year-old.

3) Craig Dawson edging closer to move

West Bromwich Albion defender, Craig Dawson, appears to be edging closer to a switch to Premier League newboys Burnley.

Sean Dyche’s side have been tracking the England youth international for much of the transfer window so far, but Baggies have rejected all their bids much to Dawson’s annoyance.

The technically adept centre-back has already asked for a move, but Burnley have not met West Brom’s asking price.

However, they have recently entered the race to sign the 24-year-old again and it seems that their third bid is of a more acceptable amount, although the deal is still not a certainty.

“There are a couple of things that are ongoing and a couple of fresh things that are just developing,” Burnley manager, Dyche, said.

“It is a bit protracted with a couple of things, but sometimes that’s the nature of how it is, if you can’t throw money everywhere.”

4) No approach for Danny Batth

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ head of football operations, Kevin Thelwell, has confirmed that the club have received no approaches for defender Danny Batth, despite rumours linking him with Aston Villa.

Reports surfaced suggesting the centre-back could have been on the verge of completing a transfer to Villa for around £5 million, but these appear to be false – with Wolves desperate to keep hold of their young star.

“I saw the story but we’ve had no approach from Villa,” Thelwell said. “We want him to help us get into the Premier League, rather than him helping someone else in there."

“We’ve had no one contacting us about Danny Batth, and neither would we welcome anyone contacting us about him because he epitomises everything we want about the football club going forwards."

5) Derby County want Leon Best

The BBC are reporting that Derby County are keen on signing Leon Best and are set to complete a deal in the near future.

The Blackburn Rovers striker has found his chances limited at Ewood Park due to injury and the form of Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede and he now looks set to move away this summer.

The powerful forward has not been given a squad number by Rovers and Steve McClaren is keen to capitalise on this by offering him a reprieve at the iPro Stadium.

How good can Batth become at Wolves? Would Best be a good signing for Derby?
