Here's the potential Manchester United side for next season based on current players and possible signings.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been one of the most entertaining coaches to watch during pre-season as he prepares his Old Trafford side for the new season.
Van Gaal said he wanted to get to know his players before making any new signings and he’s hinted he could give youth a chance to impress over the course of the next 12 months.
We’ve had a go at naming United’s side for the new season.
GK – David De Gea
The Spanish goalkeeper is the clear number one at the club and that’s unlikely to change over the next couple of weeks.
CB – Chris Smalling
Smalling’s best position is arguably when he plays in central defence and he could start in the middle, drifting out to the right.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones is one of the most versatile defensive players that United have available. He slots into the middle of a back three.
CB – Jonny Evans
Evans stands a decent chance of starting to the left of the central three and he’s admitted he’s been working hard with van Gaal on his positioning.
RWB – Antonio Valencia
Valencia has the experience of playing as both a right-back and a right winger. He can do either role and is a good option to have roaming the right hand side.
LWB – Luke Shaw
Van Gaal commissioned United to spend big on Shaw and once physically fit, he should settle on the left.
CM – Daley Blind
Blind would be a perfect signing for United because he protects the defence and offers cover for Shaw at left-back.
CM – Ander Herrera
Herrera is similar to Paul Scholes in the way that he sits and controls games in the middle of the pitch.
AM – Juan Mata
Mata is at his best when he gets on the ball in behind the main strikers. He’s looked good in pre-season.
ST – Wayne Rooney
Rooney will most likely play as the striker expected to drop off and drift to various parts of the midfield when United are under pressure.
ST – Robin van Persie
RvP was LvG’s main man for the Netherlands at the World Cup and he’ll likely be United’s main attacking weapon. He could also be named captain.
Who do you think will be in United's starting line-up next season?
