Van Gaal's CCTV system reveals a weakness in Jonny Evans

Jonny Evans has revealed he's been working on a weakness to his game with Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has revealed that the CCTV system used by the club has revealed a weakness in his game.

One of the first changes Louis van Gaal made when he moved into his Carrington office was to improve the CCTV network at the training complex so he could aspect every single part of training and he's carried that across to the pre-season tour of the USA.

In Evans’ case it’s been beneficial with the cameras helping to expose a tactical flaw, which he can correct ahead of the new season.

“We went through a video last night and I was 10 yards out (of position). There are things you are doing on the pitch, and the whole team will be feeling the same, where you are thinking: ‘Am I in the right position?’ Then the manager will show you in the video and you will know,” Evans is quoted by the Daily Mail.

With the season now a little over two weeks away and with no new centre-back in sight, Evans’ importance as a key defender in this United side could increase over the days building up to the opening Premier League game against Swansea.

Evans, along with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, is likely to start frequently in United’s back four if van Gaal opts not to sign another defender before the close of the transfer window.

Van Gaal received criticism in some areas for installing an intense CCTV system at Carrington, with claims of privacy intrusion and the threat of players feeling aggrieved at having their every move scrutinised.

However, in this case the system worked perfectly and it’s important for all of United’s defenders to work hard on their tactical awareness and positioning considering the system LvG is likely to urge United to play.

United have been operating on their pre-season tour of the USA with three centre-backs, flanked by aggressive wing-backs who act as wingers when United are on top.

That system places extra strain and pressure on the centre backs not to drift apart and not to fall out of position, which the CCTV system appears to have suggested Evans has a tendency to do.

Anything which can help United eradicate even the smallest of weaknesses has to be a positive.

How important will Evans be to United this season?
