'I deserve to play for Arsenal' says Sanogo as Wenger compares him to Adebayor

Adebayor Arsenal

Four goal hero Yaya Sanogo has been compared to former Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor by Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal defeated Benfica 5-1 earlier today, a thumping result with some stunning performances all over the pitch. Aaron Ramsey was outstanding in midfield, while new signing Calum Chambers excelled at centre-back for 90 minutes.

Then there was Joel Campbell and Hector Bellerin. The pair formed a wicked right-wing partnership, which the Portuguese side failed to handle for the majority of the game.

But the man who stole the show - that had to be Yaya Sanogo.

The Frenchman signed last summer and battled with injuries for the first six months at The Emirates. But he soon found himself getting the nod ahead of Olivier Giroud for big matches upon his comeback.

However fans were less than impressed with what they saw. Sanogo looked big, strong and in general a handful - but totally inept in front of goal.

Not today he didn't.

Sanogo bagged FOUR as Arsenal ran rampant - with some of his finishes absolutely sublime.

Sanogo went on comment on the performance on his personal blog. He stated:

"I wanted to show to everyone, I deserve to play for Arsenal. I scored my first four goals for Arsenal in one game, but I have to give the credit to the team. We are working very hard to be ready for this season. I thinks it's important for everybody to retain all the positives points as all the talented players we have in our team, our motivation and our ambition."

It was a performance that certainly silenced any critics of his goalscoring ability - but even Arsene Wenger was surprised by his performance - going on to compare him to Tottenham striker and former Gooner Emmanuel Adebayor:

"That's football. It always surprises you. Sanogo was injured for basically two years before he came to us. If you look at his goal scoring record before he got injured, it is quite frightening. For a while when he came back last season, he could not score. You could see when he scored the first goal today, suddenly they can raining.I especially liked the third goal he scored, it was really the goal of a striker of quality. He has a big future here, or course, he is 21. He has something of Adebayor. He is strong, a strong body, similar strengths, but as well technical skill."

Can Sanogo surpass Emmanuel Adebayor's achievements?
