Louis van Gaal updates on Manchester United’s transfer plans

Louis van Gaal - suited and booted

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says that maybe he does not need any more players, just days after admitting that he wants a new defender.

Manchester United have signed two new players so far this summer – midfielder Ander Herrera and defender Luke Shaw - and they are reportedly in the transfer market for more.

A number of stars have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, including Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and Borussia Dortmund central defender Mats Hummels.

However, it has been over a month since the Red Devils last recruited a new player, and there are no concrete signs that they will complete a deal with any of their (reported) transfer targets any time soon.

Manager Louis van Gaal, though, is not worried about his team’s (lack of) transfer activity in recent weeks, as the Manchester outfit continue their pre-season tour of the US.

As a matter of fact, the Dutchman has actually stated that he may not even sign any new players if he is happy with the first-team players he has at his disposal at the moment.

‘I want to see the players I have in the team first to give them an honest chance’, Goal.com quotes him as saying. ‘We have got a month to go still, and we are winning everything - maybe we don’t need other players’.

Van Gaal’s latest comments about not signing new players should be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, it was just days ago when the 62-year-old publicly stated that he wants to sign a new defender.

‘I am looking at the defenders we have first’, TEAMtalk quoted the former Netherlands coach as saying. ‘And, when you see our three matches, we are doing well, I think. But it is right that we are looking for defenders, because a lot of defenders have gone'.

Van Gaal sending out mixed signals on his transfer plans is hardly something unique – after all, he is not going to divulge which players the club is in talks with until he is certain that he can sign them.

Or maybe Van Gaal is indeed toying with the idea of not signing any more players and instead getting the best out of the personnel he has.

Perhaps the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss genuinely believes that last season many of the youngsters and experienced players who could not perform to the best of their abilities have what it takes to succeed under him.

Either way, United fans should have faith in Van Gaal’s masterplan to make the Red Devils devilishly good again.
