Portuguese star has not made the cut for Real Madrid’s final friendly match in the United States.
The forward has been training alone for the majority of his first week back in the set-up, and will not get the chance to feature against his old side in front of a 109,000 capacity crowd in Michigan.
It will come as good news to Louis Van Gaal’s men that Ronaldo is absent, with the Reds having won all of their pre-season fixtures, while Real Madrid are yet to register a win.
Both clubs played Italian outfits Roma and Inter Milan in the tour competition ‘The Champions Cup’. Odd phrasing considering none of the four teams that played each other won their respective domestic leagues, but they have certainly been fixtures that have drawn the crowds in the US.
Real have already announced their starting XI for the game with United, with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Xabi Alonso, Gareth Bale and Isco all set to play. New signing James Rodriguez and the returning Karim Benzema will pose threats from the bench.
Although Ronaldo is due to be present to watch Madrid face old team-mates such as Wayne Rooney, he will be disappointed to be missing out on a reunion.
Ronaldo has faced United twice in Real Madrid colours, in two legs of the Champions League two seasons ago. The 29-year-old scored twice across both legs to ensure United were eliminated.
