Joel Campbell has netted his first Arsenal goal during today's emphatic 5-1 win over Portuguese champions Benfica. And some goal it was too.
Running on to a cross from Hector Bellerin on the edge of the box, Campbell connected with a left footed volley that bounced into the turf and into the far corner of the goal.
It was just part of a superb result for the Gunners, with young French striker Yaya Sanogo, who failed to score at all for the first team last season, netting FOUR times in the game.
The young Costa Rican striker has had to bide his time at the Emirates since joining from Deportivio Saprissa in 2011, heading out on loan to Ligue 1, La Liga and the Greek Superleague in his three years in Europe because of an inability to get a work permit to play in England.
But it was his spell with Olympiakos last season that really began to get Arsenal fans excited, scoring 11 times in 43 games, while also impressing during the Greek giant's progress in the Champions League.
Still only 22-years-old, Campbell has already proved himself a key player for his national team, scoring goals against Spain, Wales, USA and Paraguay since signing for the North Londoners. Again, he brought these performances up a notch at this summer's World Cup, where he was the attacking star of a Costa Rica side that brushed aside England, Italy and Uruguay to reach the quarter finals for the first time in their history.
Clearly the young forward has plenty to offer Arsenal's title hopes this season, and his volley shows that a player of his class will surly not be sent out on loan again.
Is Campbell set to star for Arsenal this season?
