'First name on the teamsheet' - City fans react to Jovetic show against Olympiacos

Stevan Jovetic playing for Montenegro

Manchester City fans have been impressed by Stevan Jovetic's performances over the course of pre-season so far.

If pre-season is a chance for players to put themselves into the forefront of their manager’s thinking than Stevan Jovetic has seized that opportunity at Manchester City.

The striker was on the periphery of City’s first-team last season, making just 11 league appearances after joining in the summer, thanks to the form of Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero and a series of injuries.

However, during City’s tour of the United States this summer he has unquestionably been their brightest player – scoring five goals in three games during City’s International Champions Cup campaign.

It has forced Manuel Pellegrini to think about using the striker on far more regular occasions, with the Chilean admitting that he could be ‘key’ to his side’s chances this season.

City won the Premier League title last year after a dramatic finale and they will be hoping to retain it amid increasing pressure as many of their rivals continue to strengthen over the summer.

The Citizens have had one of their more quiet transfer windows in recent times this summer, but Jovetic’s form – to cite a cliché – suggests he could be like a new signing this year after he struggled in his first season in England after moving from Fiorentina.

Last night Jovetic was in the thick of the action once again – scoring their first of the game in City's 2-2 draw with Olympiacos.

City went on to lose the ensuing penalty-shoot out, dumping them out of the competition, but the Montenegrin striker’s performances have meant that calls for him to see more regular first-team action this season have increased from the fan-base.

Here are a selection of the best tweets from City fans on Jovetic’s displays so far during pre-season.

Can Jovetic be a success at City this season?
