Jack Rodwell has struggled to make any sort of impact at Manchester City since making the £12million move from Everton two years ago, and is now set to move on as he looks to resurrect his career, with Southampton reportedly keen on signing the midfielder.
Napoli have shown a strong interest all summer with Rafa Benitez keen on bringing in the 23-year-old to bolster his midfield, while West Brom and Newcastle have also been linked.
But the Saints have are now said to have joined the race and are reportedly in a strong position to acquire the services of the Englishman having received around £90million from the sales of five stars this summer.
Rodwell has only made 16 Premier League appearances at City as a result of ongoing injury problems and competition for places.
A move to Southampton would give him the chance to shine on a regular basis once again and would also boost his chances of making Roy Hodgson's England squad in the near future.
Morgan Schneiderlin's future at Southampton is very much in doubt, and Rodwell would surely be the man to replace the Frenchman if he makes the switch to Spurs.
The former Everton man saw just 23 minutes of action in the Premier League in 2014 and could revive his career with the Saints at the perfect time with Ronald Koeman's side in a transitional period.
Would Jack Rodwell be a good signing for Southampton?
