Following his penalty miss for Manchester City, their defender has posted a message of apology on social media.
Manchester City defender Micah Richards has posted a message on his Twitter account after his penalty miss against Olympiakos on Saturday.
The Guinness International Champions Cup match went to a shoot-out after finishing 2-2. But Richards was anything but composed as he stepped up to take a penalty that - were it in a competitive match - would have found its way into blooper reels for years to come.
Goals from Stevan Jovetic and Aleksandar Kolarov twice put Manuel Pellegrini's side ahead but a brace from Thanasis Papazoglou took the game to penalties.
And Richards' effort has prompted plenty of reaction after he smashed the ball well over the bar, his tecnhique very much one of hit-(very hard)-and-hope.
Later he took to Twitter to say, "Been taking pens all week in training and slotting but today!!!!! Oh my oh my, I apologise."
It will be interesting to see if Richards takes a penalty in a competitive match in the future.
