Old Firm latest: Swansea target young Celtic ace; McCoist fumes at Mohsni

We bring you the latest news from Celtic and Rangers.

1) Swansea want Adam Matthews

Swansea City are hoping to sign Adam Matthews from Celtic, after struggling to afford the cost of Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton.

The Swans consider Spurs’ asking price for Naughton too high and now they have turned their attentions to Matthews, who they believe they could purchase for around £2million.

Matthews is considered one of Celtic’s brightest prospects and made 23 appearances for the Bhoys last season, but the temptation of Premier League football may lure him away from Parkhead.

2) Tierney delighted with debut

Whilst most people involved with Celtic were trying their hardest to put their most recent friendly, a 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, out of their minds quickly, it is a game that Kieran Tierney will never forget.

The 17-year-old came on for the Bhoys in the second half to make his debut for the Scottish champions and says that he still can’t believe that he has played for the club’s first team.

He said: “It was a dream come true but such a shame about the result.

“At the time, I wasn’t even thinking about the score. All I had in my head was that I was playing for the team that I’ve always loved and supported, and all I wanted to do was work hard for the last half hour.

“I just heard the shout for me to warm up but I just froze. I didn’t know what to feel it was just unbelievable. When you are a wee boy, this is what you dream of. It’s been my life’s ambition and it’s just happened.”

3) Ally McCoist fuming with Bilel Mohsni

Ally McCoist has been left angry at Bilel Mohsni after he headbutted Derby County’s Chris Martin in the two side’s most recent friendly.

Rangers went down 2-0 to the Championship side at the weekend, but Mohsni’s act of petulance and aggression annoyed McCoist more than the result did.

“He has let himself and the team down, it’s unacceptable," he said.

“There is no excuse – it was a big disappointment. Bilel will have to learn that the squad need him, we all need each other.

“So there’s no room for anyone not accepting responsibility for their actions especially when they have a bearing on the performance and result.”

The Tunisian international has been linked with a move away from Ibrox for much of the summer so far and his future looks even less certain now he has angered his manager so much.

Mohsni has always had a poor temperament and a volatile side to his game and it seems that this current act may have caused McCoist to lose patience in him.

4) Steve McClaren happy with Rangers test

Derby County manager Steve McClaren says that he is happy with the competitive nature of his side’s friendly match with Rangers.

The Championship promotion hopefuls ran out 2-0 winners over the Scottish Championship side thanks to two goals from Chris Martin and McClaren says he was delighted that there was a tempo to the game that was not normally associated with pre-season matches.

"Sometimes pre-season games can be frustrating because you're going through the motions, but this was a real test and a game with an edge to it," he said.

"That is what we wanted, and what an atmosphere. The Rangers fans came down here in their numbers and gave their team some fantastic vocal support.

"I think that made it feel like a proper game. It was like a derby atmosphere. The first half was like a boxing match where two opponents were stood in the middle slugging it out. We said at half-time we had to slug it out and knock the opponent down, or they will do it to you.

"And in the second half we scored two well taken goals and deserved the win."

Should Rangers sell Moshni? Would Matthews be a good buy for Swansea?
