Arsene Wenger has told reporters that he plans to keep striker Joel Campbell this season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told reporters that he has no intentions of allowing Joel Campbell to leave this summer, despite interest from AC Milan.

The Serie A giants have been heavily linked with the striker since his return to North London and are said to be keen on acquiring his services on loan this season.

According to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri had scouts watching the Costa Rican star in action against Benfica yesterday and a meeting with his agent could be scheduled for tomorrow.

“It's possible that Campbell's agent will be in London tomorrow and he should meet Milan's executives. Milan will inquire about Campbell and will verify the intensions of the player. Campbell is unlikely to leave, but Milan are targeting him.” The report claims.

The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, however, told reporters after the game that no Milan bid has arrived and responded negatively when asked if he would let him go.

“No, there is no reason to let him go. At the moment I want to keep him. He needs to play, he played very well today and he impressed me.”

The 22-year-old can play both as a lone striker and in one of the three positions behind the frontman, offering the North Londoners cover in a range of positions.

Despite joining the club in 2011, Campbell has yet to make an official Premier League appearance and has spent the last three seasons out on loan.

Last season, his development took off and he became an integral part of Olympiakos’ title-winning campaign, scoring eight goals in 32 appearances.

Will Joel Campbell be an Arsenal first-team regular this season?
