Why Liverpool's recruitment drive is already showing benefits

Six signings so far, and although competitive action hasn't got underway, their recruitment has already shown to have some positives.

It has been a busy summer at Anfield when it comes to transfers. So far, no fewer than six players have signed for the club - and the likelihood is that another three could join the club before the transfer window shuts at the start of September.

So far Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi have all joined - whilst Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno are seemingly close to heading to Merseyside.

Some have said the club have brought in too many players this summer, that they're at risk at disrupting the squad and, following the sale of Luis Suarez, are at risk of 'doing a Tottenham' by spending the money on so many players without really compensating for the loss of such an influential player.

But so far on the pre-season tour, there are examples of this heavy recruitment drive having its benefits.

So far, no less than five Liverpool players have been sent home from the tour of the United States due to injury in Fabio Borini, Daniel Sturridge, Daniel Agger, Jon Flanagan and Adam Lallana. Lazar Markovic is also having treatment on an injury.

But without all these players available for Brendan Rodgers, there still seems to be plenty of options, even if it does highlight that the forward line is in need of strengthening prior to the transfer deadline, or even better, before the start of the season.

Of course, a couple of players returning from their loan spells the season before also seemingly adds depth, and there haven't been many players heading towards the exit door from Anfield so far this summer. Though there may be one or two heading out of Anfield in the coming weeks, there is still likely to be a lot more players who have gone to the club than left in this summer's window.

On paper, Liverpool seem able to put a strong side field a strong looking side even with five or six faces from the squad missing.
