LvG will have face-to-face meetings with players over their futures - Report

Inside Old Trafford

Louis van Gaal is reportedly getting ready to reveal which Manchester United players will be allowed to leave the club.

The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will have face-to-face meetings with the club’s fringe players when the squad returns to England.

United have performed superbly during pre-season in the United States and van Gaal said he needed to watch his squad up close before he made decisions over the futures of key players.

Several stars including the likes of Shinji Kagawa and Marouane Fellaini have been tipped for the exit door this summer and it seems the Dutch coach is nearly ready to announce who will be allowed to leave.

“Louis van Gaal will tell his players face-to-face if they have no future at Manchester United after the club’s US tour to give them time to negotiate a move away from Old Trafford,” writes Chris Wheeler.

“Anderson, Nani, Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa and Marouane Fellaini are among the big names in danger of being jettisoned before the transfer deadline but, typically, Van Gaal will not shirk the responsibility of breaking the news.”

While some will definitely leave, van Gaal is likely to be wary of giving himself too much to do in the transfer market before the close of the window on September 1.

He has also hinted that he will give youth stars a chance to impress over the course of the season, which means a youngster could find himself under a bit of pressure being urged to fill the squad space of an established star who has just been sold.

Manchester United’s midfield could still use an extra body and some of the targets the club have been linked with may only become available over the next couple of weeks.

Stars all over Europe connected to the club have been given extra time off following the World Cup, which makes it difficult for any side looking to buy them to do deals quickly and easily.

Of the names mentioned by the Mail, Anderson and Nani are a pair of players where it would be hugely surprising if they stayed.

Kagawa and Fellaini could be kept on if van Gaal is unable to draft in the midfielders he thinks the side need over the rest of the summer, but Chicharito should be let go as he’s unlikely to break the attacking duo of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie up front.
