United could beat Barca to Colombia star for less than €50m price-tag - report

Per Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are on the verge of making the first concrete move in the race for Juan Cuadrado.

Juan Cuadrado’s name is one of the hottest on the transfer market this summer, but with August already upon us his future remains well and truly up in the air.

Fiorentina have repeatedly expressed a desire to hold on to the versatile wide-man, though have admitted they may be forced to part ways with their star man this summer.

Whilst there has been plenty of interest in the Colombian from around the continent, it seems that no club has made made a definitive move for him.

But according to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, this may be about to change with Manchester United first to the party.

A report from Di Marzio reads: “They [United] are considering presenting a first official bid, revealing their interest. Fiorentina’s starting price is €50 million.

“United could offer €40 million plus bonuses. In this way, they could beat the competition from Barcelona, who have been following Cuadrado for a while but their pursuit is stalling because Dani Alves hasn’t left yet.”

Barcelona and United have long been seen as the front-runners for the 26-year-old, especially as fellow European giants Bayern Munich reportedly ruled themselves out of the race last month.

Yet the Blaugrana’s need to offload Alves before tabling a bid for Cuadrado appears to put United in the driver’s seat at present with less than a month to go before deadline day.

Fiorentina are caught in an awkward position where they’re well aware of outside interest in one of their top players - Cuadrado’s agent has previously revealed contact with Barcelona - but are yet to receive a cash offer to even consider.

Should United ultimately decide to put €40 million plus bonuses on the table for the Viola to mull over, it seems possible the Serie A outfit could accept despite their valuation not having been met.

Vincenzo Montella’s outfit will need time to reinvest and replace Cuadrado and with Barcelona held up by the Alves situation, United could well have the advantage.

Acting fast might just be the key to landing the Colombian ahead of a major rival for United - at a discount, no less - but for the moment, it remains to be seen whether Louis van Gaal and company will step up to make the first move.

Could United land Cuadrado for below Fiorentina's asking price if they act fast?
