Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Luke Shaw performance against Liverpool

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw excelled in his side's 3-1 victory against Liverpool in the final of the ICC Cup.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw put in arguably his best performance for the club so far as United secured a 3-1 win against Liverpool to win the ICC Cup.

United made a massive investment to sign Shaw from Southampton and he was immediately challenged by LvG, who accused the England youngster of not being fit enough as the club embarked on a pre-season tour of the USA.

Van Gaal chose not to start with Shaw against Liverpool, but was forced to bring him on when Antonio Valencia was forced off with an injury, which will likely be monitored for the foreseeable future.

Shaw excelled when he was chucked in at the deep end against a very talented attacking unit which Liverpool had available.

Defensively he looked solid and he appears to have been working hard on his positional play, while he made all of the right decisions at the other end of the pitch.

Shaw finds himself in a position at United that he may not have been expecting when he first made the move from Southampton.

He’s currently the primary left-back at the club following the departure of Patrice Evra to Juventus and he seems well suited to the 3-5-2/5-3-2 system that van Gaal seems keen to use at United.

That system allows him the flexibility to get forward and provide the width from United’s left hand side while not leaving him over exposed when he has to tuck back into his left-back role.

The trick for him now is going to be maintaining the momentum he’s built up throughout the pre-season tour of the USA.

His squad status as the first choice left-back makes it extremely important that he doesn’t let his fitness levels dip and continues to work towards full match sharpness ahead of the Swansea game on August 16.

Here’s what Manchester United fans made of his performance on Twitter.
