Arsenal could start the new season the same way they finished the last campaign: by winning a trophy.
The Gunners went nine years without winning any major silverware, but finally the North London club’s fans tasted trophy success in May.
Arsene Wenger’s side came from two goals down to get the better of fellow Premier League team Hull City 3-2 after extra time in the final of the FA Cup at London’s Wembley Stadium.
It is at the same famous venue where the 13-time English champions will commence the 2014-15 campaign as they take on Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Sunday.
Defender Kieran Gibbs is expected to play a part in that match against the reigning Premier League champions and is looking forward to returning to Wembley.
There is renewed hope and optimism at Arsenal after years of underachievement. Following the signing of Chile international forward Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and last summer’s trophy success, the Gunners will head into the new season confident of winning the league title for the first time since 2004.
It will give the players a huge boost if they beat City on Sunday, but whether or not they can do so remains to be seen.
