Arsenal latest: Vermaelen replacement 'up for sale' and Owen in top four dig

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Manchester City have reportedly put their young Serbian defender Matija Nastasic up for sale which may alert Arsenal to his availability.

The talented defender became a bit-part player at The Etihad last season and with Eliaquim Mangala on his way to the club his position is now redundant.

Arsenal are surely one of the teams likely to be pleased with this news, which originates from Italy, that Nastasic is available. The club have been linked with his signature for the past couple of weeks. Arsenal are ready to sell club captain Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona - and Arsene Wenger has confirmed the club would be buying a replacement for him if he did indeed depart.

Arsenal's flickering hopes of signing Morgan Schneiderlin have seemingly been extinguished.

Southampton have insisted that the French international is going nowhere this summer, with Tottenham also told to forget it:

"We're not the kind of club that right off the bat is going to overreact. The fact of the matter is there is a strategy in place and that we clearly have Morgan and Jay in the centre, as a core players of building this squad going forwards. That is our strategy and we're going to stick with it. We are now on a building and not in a reducing phase."

Michael Owen, who seems to enjoy rubbing Arsenal fans up the wrong way, has suggested the club will not qualify for the Champions League next season.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker believes Chelsea will win the league, ahead of Manchester City in second and Manchester United in third. While Liverpool will pip Arsenal to fourth according to the pundit.

Bacary Sagna has spoken about his decision to leave the club for Manchester City - revealing former Arsenal exodus men Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri helped to convince him of the switch:

"Yes, I spoke to them [Nasri and Clichy] many times. They knew I was free and wanted to move, and told me to come because they have a great team with a great mentality, who work hard and win trophies."

Would Nastasic be a good enough replacement for Vermaelen?
