Joao Rodriguez is moving to Bastia on loan to work under former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele.

Chelsea have made a decent business of recruiting some of the most promising young talents in the world, and seeing their development continue on loan for the London club at leagues all over Europe.

They famously have a very close relationship with Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem that has seen several Chelsea youths star in the Eredivisie, while some of the more established players have headed to Germany or Spain.

But no one will take care of these Chelsea fledglings like one of their own.

Joao Rodriguez has joined the group of those that have moved to a top European league to further his career. Having joined the Blues from Boca Juniors Cali in Colombia, the 18-year-old forward continued his education with loan spells back in his homeland, but after starring in the Under-20 Toulon tournament in France Rodriguez has moved across the channel to get his first bit of senior European football with Corsican Ligue 1 outfit Bastia.

There had been reports earlier in the summer that the young Colombian was one of those set to take a tried and tested loan to Vitesse, but it appears Bastia, now managed by former Chelsea star Claude Makelele, have stepped in to snap the striker up.

Makelele spent five years at Stamford Bridge during Jose Mourinho's first spell in charge of the Blues, and helped usher in the never-say-die, winning mentality that is now synonymous with the club.

L'Equipe report that Rodriguez is one of two players arriving at Bastia from the Premier League, with Sunderland's El-Hadji Ba also set to switch to mainland Europe.

If Rodriguez can get some game time under his belt in Ligue 1, he is still plenty young enough to try and force his way into the plans of Jose Mourinho, who will likely have plenty of time for what his former midfield general Makelele has to say on the youngster.

Which player loaned from Chelsea be the first to eventually seize a first team spot at the Blues?
