All the latest Chelsea transfer news and stories including Atletico Madrid offering Joao Miranda for Andre Schurrle and the latest on Edison Cavani.
Having already had one £20 million bid for Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda rejected, Jose Mourinho may have already been tempted to explore alternative options, however, according to recent reports, the reigning La Liga champions have returned to the negotiating table with a counter-offer - yet it is one the Chelsea boss may roll his eyes at.
It is no secret that Atletico boss Diego Simeone is desperate to improve on his roster since last season - a task seemingly made much tougher due to the sales of Filipe Luis and Diego Costa. And in order to enhance his squad, the Argentine is eager to recruit Andre Schurrle.
So now Mourinho has a decision to make… does he swap Schurrle for Miranda, or does he reject the counter-offer?
The Express imply that it could well be a straight-swap deal that is on the cards, as Atletico value Schurrle as a £25 million athlete which is, incidentally, the cost of Miranda's get-out clause.
The chances Schurrle will want to leave Stamford Bridge are slim, as the World Cup winner told the club's official website that he is relishing the prospect of playing with Francesc Fabregas and Didier Drogba, while his ambitions for the year are to help Chelsea do what they couldn't last season - win trophies.
"Drogba’s back and Fabregas is one of the best players in the world," he said. "We played against Filipe Luis last season when he was with Atletico and he did very well. I saw Diego Costa’s goal against Olimpija Lubjlana and it was a great finish, so I’m looking forward to playing with all of them, they all have great quality."
On the year ahead, he said: "I’m hoping to achieve what we couldn’t last season, which is to win something. That’s what it’s all about, winning matches and winning trophies. We have the squad, we have the players and now we just need to work hard."
Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain want to "offload" Edison Cavani so that they can finance a move for Angel di Maria. Should Chelsea remain interested in the Uruguayan then they may face competition for his signature as Louis van Gaal is also a noted admirer.
