Report: Newcastle United outcast set for Lacazette swap deal

Hatem Ben Arfa could be used as bait to sign Alexandre Lacazette.

Newcastle United will reportedly offer axed winger Hatem Ben Arfa as a makeweight to sign Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette.

The striker is valued at £15 million, but the inclusion of his fellow Frenchman would bring that fee down to an acceptable level for the Magpiesaccording to the Daily Mail.

After moving to Tyneside in 2010, Ben Arfa made an excellent start to life in the Premier League. The winger scored six goals in his first full season in England's top flight, including the occasional wonderstrike, and brought real attacking flair to Alan Pardew's side.

His performances slipped last season, however, and a bust-up with Pardew has led the manager to label him "unprofessional" and banish him to train with the reserves.

With the situation at Newcastle seemingly untenable, Lyon could offer Ben Arfa a way out, but one sticking point could be the 27-year-old's wages. He currently earns around £50,000 per week, and Newcastle may be forced to pay a portion of that to convince the Ligue 1 side to take him.

The Magpies could still face a tough task in persuading Lacazette to leave Lyon. His agent David Venditelli recently made it clear that any club his client would consider joining would need to provide Champions League football next season.

“If Alexandre were to leave, he would leave for a team which plays in the Champions League, or at least one which is very close to it," Venditelli said.

Newcastle will hope, however, that the strong French contingent at the club will be enough to seal Lacazette's signature.

Is Hatem Ben Arfa's time over at Newcastle over?
