Arsenal will head into the Community Shield game knowing that a win will only add to the confidence and momentum, which has been created following their victory in the FA Cup final last season.
Here’s the team Arsene Wenger could go with.
GK – Wojciech Szczesny
The Pole has been challenged by the arrival of David Ospina, but he remains the club’s number one.
RB – Mathieu Debuchy
The Frenchman arrived from Newcastle to replace Bacary Sagna and this will be one of his biggest tests so far in Arsenal colours.
CB – Calum Chambers
Chambers was used in a centre-back role by Arsene Wenger during the Emirates Cup last weekend and he should continue until Per Mertesacker or Thomas Vermaelen’s return.
CB – Laurent Koscielny
The French defender will inject a bit of experience into the back four. He’ll ensure Chambers isn’t exposed and doesn’t fall out of position.
LB – Nacho Monreal
Monreal provides balance to the back four and he’ll be an important player tucking in but also providing width when he gets forward.
RM – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
He was on the bench for the game against Monaco but could be unleashed for this match.
DM – Jack Wilshere
Arsene Wenger has already hinted that he thinks Wilshere can play a defensive midfield role and with no signings imminent, he may get a chance to prove he can make the position his own.
CM – Aaron Ramsey
Rambo is one of the best central midfielders around. He’s not afraid to get stuck in and proved last season he can contribute in attack.
AM – Santi Cazorla
With Mesut Ozil not due back in training until next week, Cazorla should get the chance to continue in the number ten role.
LM – Alexis Sanchez
Sanchez got some game time on the left hand side last weekend and while Gunners may prefer to see him play centrally, he played the majority of his career at Barca down the left.
ST – Olivier Giroud
Giroud is Arsenal’s main striker and this is a chance for him to exploit a potentially weakened Manchester City defence.
