Should Depay ignore LvG's personal advice and move to Tottenham?

Netherlands winger Memphis Depay is being linked with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for £15 million rated Dutch World Cup star Memphis Depay, testing the 20-year-old winger with the lure of Premier League football.

Spurs stand a great chance of snapping him up if they can get PSV Eindhoven engaged in negotiations, but should Depay ignore the personal advice, which has been given to him by Manchester United manager and former coach Louis van Gaal?

“The former Bayern Munich coach has privately told Depay that his career would be best served by remaining in the Eredivisie for a further season before seeking a transfer abroad, potentially to United,” reports Goal.com.

Firstly, Mauricio Pochettino is an extremely talented manager who has a successful recent track record of developing younger players with Southampton.

Pochettino helped turn Luke Shaw into a player that United paid an initial £27 million for along with Calum Chambers, who moved to Arsenal in a £12 million transfer.

Pochettino’s man management skills with younger players are superb and there’s no reason he couldn’t turn Depay into an extremely valuable player if he moved to Tottenham.

Tottenham also have an edge over United because they can offer European football.

It’s not the Champions League, which is the main aspiration for the club, but the Europa League is better than not being able to offer any European football at any level.

That increases the exposure and game time that Depay would receive at Tottenham.

That leads to a sharper, improved and generally better all round game. He would be sharper at Manchester United for having the extra rest but the different style and calibre of opponents in the Europa League is significant.

Financially a move to United would be better for him on a personal level but that’s where Pochettino comes into play and can use all of his negotiations skills to try and convince the winger that Tottenham is the better place to play his football.

Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy have to present Tottenham as a better place to be than the player staying at PSV for another season, which is what van Gaal would seemingly prefer.

Do you think Tottenham can pull off a move for Depay?
