Arsenal fans unconcerned after former target Manquillo moves to Liverpool

Arsenal fans don't appear to be bothered after former target Javier Manquillo moved to Liverpool.

Liverpool announced yesterday that they had agreed an initial loan deal with Atletico Madrid for Javier Manquillo, who was also linked with Arsenal earlier in the summer.

Speculation was rife over who would replace Bacary Sagna at Arsenal but Arsene Wenger did superb work to secure Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle before adding Calum Chambers from Southampton.

Add to the mix Hector Bellerin and the Gunners have a core of talented players who can take care of the right hand side of the defence throughout the coming season.

Rather than missing out on Manquillo being considered a blow to the club, Arsenal now find themselves in arguably a stronger position than if they’d completed a deal for the Atletico defender.

The links which suggested Arsenal were interested in him started to spring up around the time that the first Debuchy rumours started to appear and had he arrived along with the Frenchman, there may have been no need for Wenger to go after Chambers.

Chambers offers extreme versatility in the same sort of way as Phil Jones at Manchester United.

He can play as a right-back, he can play on the right side of central defence and Wenger has already commented that he thinks Chambers is good enough to be able to move into a holding midfield role if needed.

Mix that in with the experience which is provided by Debuchy and the hungry talent of Bellerin and Wenger has all of his angles covered in terms of the right-back slot over the course of the coming season.

The reports which suggested that Newcastle were trying to keep Debuchy in the North-East show how much belief they had in his ability defensively and going forward.

Here are some responses from Arsenal fans on Twitter when Manquillo’s move to Liverpool was confirmed yesterday.

Are you happy with Arsenal's right-back options ahead of the new season?
