Arsenal star: The games I played were similar to Yaya Toure, two key areas to improve

Aaron Ramsey Claps

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey is not resting on his laurels.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey enjoyed a phenomenal season last year, one which if not interrupted by injury could have seen him win Player of the Year honours.

The Welshman was terrific in the first half of the campaign, the club's top scorer before his thigh injury suffered on Boxing Day, and led the team in tackles per game.

Despite this, Ramsey is adamant he must do more in two key areas in which he excelled, as he continues his quest for greatness.

He told a press conference at The Emirates on Thursday: "I think there is always pressure on us. Not just me but the rest of the team. Pressure to go and perform. I just want to improve on last season. There's things I can still improve on defensively.

"I want to improve on the goals that I scored from last season. There's a lot more to come."

He was also asked about whether he felt his comparisons stacked up against Yaya Toure of Manchester City, to which he responded:

"He had a full season I missed three months but if you look at the games I played they were fairly similar and the season he had was unbelievable. I want to continue improving."

And to be fair to Ramsey, he is absolutely right, his record last season stands up.

Earlier this year we took a look at the Toure and Gerrard's form over the first 19 gameweeks of the season, which covers up to and including Ramsey's last Premier League game before his injury against West Ham.

Ramsey bettered Toure in terms of assists, tackles won, interceptions, and touches per game, illustrating his influence on the Arsenal side.

The Welshman is self-aware enough to know he has improvement to make, but if he continues making the rapid strides he did last season - there is no telling how good he can become.

Can any Arsenal midfielder outshine Ramsey this season?
