Arsenal transfer news: Favourites in Reus pursuit; Vermaelen future

Marco Reus

All the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates.

It was reported late last night that Manchester United have now taken the lead in the race for Arsenal club captain Thomas Vermaelen once again. The Belgian has been linked with moves to both Barcelona and United - with the Spanish club reportedly readying a bid for his services on Tuesday.

However Vermaelen is said to prefer the move to United - who would reportedly be ready to outbid Barca in order to get hold of their man.

The centre back has not been regular at The Emirates in recent times after losing his place in the starting line-up to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

A report in Germany suggests that Arsenal are leading the race for Germany playmaker Marco Reus.

The report from publication Welt suggests that Arsene Wenger is ready to beat Liverpool and Manchester United to the signing of the talismanic playmaker.

Reus has a release clause in his current deal believed to be worth anywhere between 35 and 35 million Euros.

Dortmund recently hit back at Bayern Munich after their CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed Reus is available on the cheap.

Finally and it is now being heavily reported that Arsenal will indeed target Liverpool defender Daniel Agger as a replacement for their outgoing club captain Vermaelen.

The Danish star is said to be keen on an Anfield exit, as he himself struggles for regular first-team football.

However, if Vermaelen goes to United they may face competition for the signature of Agger from Spanish side Barcelona.
