David Luiz Warm Up

The former Chelsea star will play in Ligue 1 next season, wearing the number 32.

Chelsea have done some great transfer business this summer, but not just in the buying department. Managing to sell David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for a whopping fee in the region of £50 million is quite frankly a miraculous piece of business.

The swashbuckling defender is, on his day, superb, but day rarely comes around often enough. Most of the time at the back Luiz is a liability - positionally naive, reckless under pressure and far to focused on attacking then doing his first job as a defender.

At the World Cup this summer he proved his inconsistency, looking great throughout until one of the worst individual World Cup performances of all time, no exaggeration, against Germany in a 7-1 semi-final loss.

Today he has finally been unveiled as a PSG player, attending a press conference with the club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The Qatari boss opened the press conference by stating:

"David Luiz is the best defender in the world and will help us in our aim to win the Champions League."

Of course many would beg to differ. However when playing alongside Thiago Silva, which of course he did not against Germany, he does seem to put in his best performances. Them two as a pair at club level might just end up surprising a few sceptics.

Luiz spoke of Chelsea briefly, instead looking to the future with his new team:

"I am very happy to join a big club and cannot wait to play. This is my life ... What concerns me now is the advice of Laurent Blanc. Chelsea and Mourinho are in the past."

PSG also showed off some PR pics of the player in his PSG kit ahead of the new campaign.

Chelsea fans will no doubt miss the personality of the mercurial defender but will also have to admit his absence is likely to make them a stronger defensive unit.

As for PSG. Chelsea fans can only probably say 'good luck' when it comes to taming this inconsistent star.

Will Luiz be a success at PSG?
