Report - Mangala tipped to complete Manchester City move this week

Etihad Stadium

Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala will reportedly fly into England to within the next 48 hours to wrap up a move to Manchester City.

City have been locked in negotiations with the Portuguese club for the majority of the summer with the France international defender said to be the subject of a £40 million offer from the Premier League champions.

Porto were said to be furious with footage of Mangala's medical at City being leaked on the English club's website earlier this month, and it is believed that the gaffe had been a key reason for the hold-up with talks.

The five-minute video clip reportedly showed Mangala explaining through the use of an interpreter that he was joining City to win titles, while having his medical at the club's Carrington training ground.

“I am here to help the team to win titles: the league, the cup and the Champions League," he said last month.

The deal had also looked to have hit a snag after they were unable to reach an agreement about how the payment would be spread, but after reaching an amicable negotiation, the centre-back will now look to put the finishing touches on his move.

Mangala will fly into Manchester to conclude a deal before the weekend, according to The Mirror, with the fee reported to be around £32 million.

The Frenchman was part of the Les Blues side that reached the quarter-finals, but he was firmly behind Mamadou Sakho, Raphael Varane and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order for Les Blues.

The imminent arrival of Mangala places further doubt on the future of the Matija Nastasic and the Serbian international has been a reported target for Arsenal this summer.

Bacary Sagna's versatility will be useful to City this season, should Nastasic move on from the Etihad, as Manuel Pellegrini will be expected to compete on all four fronts.

The champions have been relatively understated in the transfer market so far, adding Fernando and Willy Caballero alongside Sagna, while losing Joleon Lescott, Gareth Barry, Jack Rodwell and Costel Pantilimon.

However, they did confirm the signing of Frank Lampard on a six-month deal on Wednesday, ahead of the former Chelsea midfielder's move to MLS side New York City.

Meanwhile, promising youth stars Marcos Lopes and Emyr Huws have joined Lille and Wigan Athletic respectively.

Will Mangala be a good signing for City?
