Tottenham bid for Florian Thauvin - Three key questions and reaction

White Hart Lane 5

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly had a bid for Marseille's Florian Thuavin rejected.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly had a bid for Florian Thauvin of Marseille rejected as Mauricio Pochettino continues to look for players who can improve his squad ahead of the new season.

Thauvin is one of the most talented players in France and someone who could be a very good investment for the club in the number ten role if Spurs can recover from being knocked back in attempts to poach the £12 million rated youngster.

We’ve addressed three key questions in relation to the bid and covered some reaction from Tottenham Hotspur fans.

Is there a chance of a second bid?

If the reports of a failed first bid are accurate then it’s possible. Spurs can draw on good resources but what they are battling against is the fact Thauvin signed a five-year deal with the club when he joined them from Lille following a loan spell at Bastille.

What does the news mean for Christian Eriksen?

It shouldn’t really affect the Dane as the bid for the 21-year-old seems to be long term and more of an investment. Eriksen excelled in his first season at Spurs when he was routinely used out of position. Even if Spurs pull off a move for Thauvin, Eriksen will still be the first choice number ten.

What does this tell us about Pochettino’s thinking?

Pochettino did a superb job at Southampton when it came to working with younger players. There are numerous examples of players in, and formerly in, the Saints squad who he helped to become established first team regulars. He likes to invest in and develop younger players and that hasn’t changed.

Here’s some reaction from Tottenham fans.

Would Thauvin be a good signing for Spurs?
