Manchester United and Barcelona’s bid to sign Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado could be getting closer as reports emerged of the Italian outfit sounding out a replacement.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Colombian winger for much of the summer as new boss Louis Van Gaal seeks to add more new faces to his United side.
In the Dutchman’s new wing-back formation, Cuadrado seems the perfect fit as the man to fly up and down the flanks and his impressive performances at the World Cup did little to hinder his chances of a big summer move.
United, however, are not alone in their interest and reportedly face stiff competition from La Liga giants Barcelona who also appear keen to add more faces ahead of the new season.
Fiorentina would ideally like to keep the player after only recently buying out the remaining 50 percent share from Udinese, but it is widely speculated that a bid surpassing £30 million would be too hard to resist.
According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta, the Tuscan outfit fear losing their star player and have pinpointed Ecuadorian winger Fernando Gaibor as a possible replacement.
The 22-year-old full international currently plies his trade for Ecuadorian champions Emelec, but after seven years in his native country a move to Europe beckons.
Fiorentina’s latest position in the Cuadrado transfer saga only strengthens the possibility of the player leaving the club this summer.
United are said to be expected to meet up with his agent Alessandro Lucci shortly with the goal of making an offer too good to turn down.
Would Juan Cuadrado be a good signing for Manchester United?
