Turkish media talk up Galatasaray interest in Lukas Podolski

Lukas Podolski Germany

Manager Arsene Wenger may soon be handed a transfer offer for Lukas Podolski, according to the latest Arsenal transfer news.

On the same day Arsenal drew Besiktas in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, Turkish media have talked up Galatasaray interest in £20 million rated Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski, a World Cup winner with Germany currently on extended leave and not due to return to Gunners training until Monday.

Throughout the summer, media speculation has been over whom manager Arsene Wenger would be adding to his Arsenal roster - with Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina - already acquired, rather than who will be sold - with the French coach recently implying that gone are the days when the club would have to sell their top performers.

Tertiary choice centre back Thomas Vermaelen is on the cusp of a £15 million exit as Barcelona look to shore up their defensive line following the loss of Carles Puyol.

Though Wenger has not "closed the door" on a continued recruitment policy, ratifying such sales will likely force his hand in the transfer market, with the BBC claiming Wenger may look to fill vacant spots at centre back and defensive midfield with just one signing - a utility footballer capable of playing both roles.

Meanwhile, AMK, a Turkish outlet, reportedly claim that Galatasaray are ready to pounce for Podolski, who has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract. The forward was on the fringes of the first team last season but may find himself receiving seldom game-time at best due to Theo Walcott returning from injury and the arrival of Sanchez.

Of course, it does seem rather coincidental that the Turkish press are publishing the story at the same time Arsenal were confirmed to be competing against one of their domestic sides in order to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

The Gunners are due to take on Besiktas away on August 19, one week ahead of the home fixture, on August 27 at the Emirates Stadium.
