James Wilson scored all four goals in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the Manchester Senior Cup final.
United’s reserve team took on City’s elite development squad and tore them apart thanks to Wilson’s goalscoring exploits.
The 19-year-old was handed his first-team chance last season after Ryan Giggs was put in-charge, and he scored twice on his debut to add further to his burgeoning reputation as one of England’s finest prospects.
His four-goal haul last night has led to United fans insisting that he should be part of their first-team set-up for the next season, too.
It means that the England youth international has now scored 28 goals in his last 31 games at all levels for United.
The Red Devils are a club famed for their approach of bringing youngsters through the academy and it appears that Wilson could be the next of a long-list of superstars to come through their youth-ranks.
The striker appears to have everything required of a modern footballer – he is intelligent in his movement, a natural dribbler and a deadly finisher.
He is now pushing hard for a place amongst the first-team and many United fans feel that he should replace Javier Hernandez, who looks set to move away from Old Trafford, as the Red Devil’s third choice striker.
The youngster will have difficulty breaking up the United duopoly of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie up-front, but there is a hope that he can provide decent back up and be brought into first-team football slowly this year.
Van Gaal has already expressed a desire to bring through the youngsters at Old Trafford and Wilson looks the most obvious choice to make the step-up.
United fans are almost unanimous in agreement that he is a top talent and they are all excited about his future development at the club.
Here are a few of the best tweets on Wilson’s fantastic performance last night against their city rivals.
