CONFIRMED: Inter Milan sign Gary Medel from Cardiff City

Chilean star has finally joined the Italian giants after an entire summer of speculation surrounding his future.

Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel has signed for Inter Milan for a fee in the region on £10million.

The Chilean’s future has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with several teams reportedly vying for his signature.

Medel’s stock rose following an impressive World Cup campaign that saw Chile reach the knock-out phases of the tournament. The 26-year-old converted to a role in a three-man defence, and was forced off with injury against host nation Brazil before being beaten on penalties.

His successful summer came after a disappointing first season in the Premier League, where he was relegated with Cardiff City. Medel was one of the better performers in an otherwise dismal campaign for the Bluebirds, but could not prevent their immediate return to the Championship.

Always expected to leave the Welsh capital, it was more the destination of the midfielder that remained uncertain. Inter first came in for him back in June, but a disagreement with Cardiff over his fee stalled negotiations.

It then looked as if Turkish side Galatasaray would pinch him from under the noses of the Italian giants, as they saw a £10million bid accepted by Cardiff. Inter chiefs took drastic action following the news, and flew into Wales to trash out a deal immediately.

But the move still lingered on, with no sign of a resolution. Cardiff were always adamant they wanted the full £9million that they signed Medel for from Sevilla last summer.

But now the move has been confirmed, with Medel set to be available for their Europa League qualifier on Thursday.

He will add a solid cover in front of a Milan defence that shipped goals last season, as he looks to help them return to the Champions League.
