Harry Redknapp is reportedly ready to bring Jonathan de Guzman to Loftus Road, with the Netherlands midfielder not returning to Swansea City.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Swans have failed to agree a permanent deal for the Villareal midfielder after his second loan spell at the Liberty Stadium came to a close this summer.
That has left the door open for QPR, who are said to be planning a £7 million bid for De Guzman.
Elsewhere, Adel Taarabt, who the Rs are paying wages of £65,000 a week, is believed to be wanted again by AC Milan.
The Moroccan spent the second half of last season on loan at the Serie A club and, according to the Daily Mail, could return there this term.
The paper claim that Milan will offer a fee of £4m, with QPR having lowered their asking price.
Discussing how he plans to transform the Cottagers, the German coach compared himself to former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
“I have nothing to prove,” Magath told reporters. “I am fine. I know what I am able to do.
“Do you remember when Sir Alex Ferguson started in Manchester? He came in and he changed not only the players, but the club and the mentality. And that is the truth and that is the most important thing.
“Yeh [the owner and chief executive should follow my way.] Otherwise why am I here? Should I learn from Fulham? I wonder?”
