€25m Liverpool and Arsenal target was waiting on Barcelona this summer

Marco Reus

Marco Reus reportedly had his heart set on Barcelona this summer - only for the Catalans to blow their money on Luis Suarez.

In recent months the future of Borussia Dortmund playmaker Marco Reus has been doing the rounds, due mostly to the club's arch-rivals Bayern Munich and the comments of their CEO Karl Heinz-Rummenigge to German paper Bild, where he revealed Reus' €25 million release clause:

"I believe that it is difficult for Borussia Dortmund, [because of] the buy-out clause for Reus. The player has high demand among the European top clubs, regardless of Bayern."

It was a comment that left Dortmund fuming with their Bundesliga rivals, although Reus' agent has since ruled out discussions with Bayern.

But Premier League clubs have since been linked with the player. Manchester United have historic links to the player, but at the moment it is Liverpool and, in the past week, Arsenal who have been strongly linked with a move for the talented maestro.

But now, an interesting report has emerged from Spain, suggesting Reus already has his heart set on his next destination after Die Schwarzgelden.

FC Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo report that Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is a big fan of the player and Reus is also friends with new Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Therefore any links with Liverpool and Arsenal were reportedly ignored by Reus - as he had his heart set on a move to Barcelona, as has been suspected for a long time.

But when Luis Suarez became available Barca dropped interest in Reus, and made a move to bring in the Liverpool striker - leaving very little in the bank to splash out on the German star.

The report continued, claiming the Premier League clubs are now ahead in their pursuit of Reus, and Barca have now fallen behind - after leaving Reus disappointed this summer.

The fact of the matter now is that Reus remains likely to stay at Dortmund for at least this season. Arsenal and Liverpool may have to wait 12 months to potentially get their man - when competition will undoubtedly be fierce again.

Where will Reus end up?
