England international striker Daniel Sturridge was on target as Liverpool defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at Anfield in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.

Liverpool may have lost Luis Suarez to Barcelona earlier this summer, but Brendan Rodgers’s side are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to scoring goals.

The departure of the star Uruguayan striker has raised concerns on how the Reds will compete in the Premier League and the Champions League this season, especially in the attacking department.

However, the Merseyside outfit did not have any problem in brushing aside 2013 Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in a pre-season friendly at Anfield on Sunday.

England international Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring for the Premier League club after just 10 minutes, and three minutes later Dejan Lovren doubled the advantage on his home debut for Liverpool.

Philippe Coutinho made it 3-0 to the hosts four minutes into the second half, and Jordan Henderson wrapped up the scoring just past the hour mark.

After the match, former Manchester City man Sturridge, who moved to Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013 for a reported transfer fee of £12 million, took to social networking site Twitter to make the following post:

Sturridge also made posted the following picture on Instagram with the message: ‘Nice to put this one away as help the boys on our way to a 4-0 win. Giving God the glory always... Next week it begins’.

With Rodgers yet to sign a replacement for Suarez, it looks increasingly like that Sturridge will be the main centre-forward in his line-up this season.

The 24-year-old Englishman has been in great form since joining Liverpool 18 months ago and has looked very confident about his game under Rodgers.

But whether Sturridge can fill the boots of Suarez this season, only time will tell.

Can Daniel Sturridge carry Liverpool’s goalscoring burden?
