Hugo Lloris Euro 2012 Penalty

Hugo Lloris has been wearing number 25 at Spurs, but it looks like he has now taken number 1 after Heurelho Gomes' departure.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris may face a little more competition for the first-team goalkeeping spot from incoming stopper Michel Vorm from Swansea City - but there is no doubt that the French international remains the undisputed number one at White Hart Lane.

It was not always that way, he had to overthrow Brad Friedel from the spot first. But while he may be the genuine number one, he has not yet worn that number.

Heurelho Gomes took the jersey when he signed for the club in 2008 from PSV Eindhoven. Now while the Brazilian custodian may not have actually played a single game for Tottenham Hotspur since a Europa League tie in November 2011 - he has still clinged onto the jersey like a baby with its blanket.

But Gomes departed this summer, joining Watford on a free transfer, meaning the number one shirt is in fact available.

And today he got to pull it on for the first time, as Spurs took on Schalke 04 at White Hart Lane. Lloris has been wearing the number 25 shirt since his arrival, but it now looks as though that shirt number is going to recent arrival Eric Dier, who wore it this afternoon in his impressive debut.

No confirmation has yet been announced, but it now looks as if Lloris will not only be number one by presence - but by squad number as well.

Will Lloris do the number one shirt proud?
