Tomas Rosicky speaks on facing former Arsenal team-mate Bacary Sagna

Sagna

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky comments on potential facing Bacary Sagna in the FA Community Shield, although the Manchester City defender is unlikely to play today.

Arsenal will take on Manchester City in the FA Community Shield at London’s Wembley Stadium later today. Both teams are expected to line up strong teams and will be determined to win the clash.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini is not expected to include Bacary Sagna in his starting XI, which will mean that the France international defender will not face his former club Arsenal today.

The North London club did offer Sagna a contract extension after his original deal came to an end in June, but the 31-year-old did not accept it and moved to City instead.

At the Etihad Stadium, the ex-Auxerre star joined his former Arsenal teammates Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy, and seems to be happy in his new surroundings.

The defender is unlikely to play against Arsenal today as Pellegrini has said that he will not include him in his squad, but speaking ahead of the match, the Gunners’ midfielder Tomas Rosicky gave his thoughts on potentially facing his former teammate in London.

‘Bacary Sagna is another one who left us for Man City so it will be kind of strange to see these boys’, Arsenal’s official website quotes the 33-year-old as saying. ‘I played with Sagna for six or seven years and now you play against him - it's always very interesting’.

Rosicky has been at Arsenal since 2006, while Sagna played for the 13-time English champions from 2007 until 2014.

During his time at the Emirates Stadium, Sagna was at one stage one of the top three right-backs in the Premier League. It was under Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that the Frenchman blossomed.

Things have not gone that smoothly for Rosicky, whose undoubted talent and creativity has often been eclipsed by his well-documented injury problems.
