Arsenal boss Wenger: Sanchez is not quite ready yet

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been discussing Alexis Sanchez's display in the Community Shield.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger praised Alexis Sanchez's fitness after the Emirates Cup a week ago, but maintains he is still short of being at full speed.

After the Chilean played the first 45 minutes against Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield, Wenger explained his progress.

He told Arsenal.com: "Sanchez was lively, still not completely ready physically but he was very exciting. He was always dangerous, always a threat and gives us great qualities on the counter-attack."

Simply being able to play for the Gunners at Wembley will have been a fantastic experience for Sanchez, and winning helps him bond with his teammates further.

With the contest against Crystal Palace in the Premier League a match which matters even more than the Community Shield, there really was no need for Wenger to play him further.

Wenger last week explained that Giroud was battling to get fit in time for the season, with the club's World Cup stars trying to shake off their holiday break and get back to peak condition.

It's why he is certain the club's German World Cup winning trio who return on Monday, will play no part against Palace.

For his part, Sanchez made three successful dribbles in 45 minutes, more than any Arsenal player managed the entire match, barring Aaron Ramsey (5). He also created one goalscoring chance.

Will Sanchez be ready to make a difference against Palace?
